I have been a Mental Health Nurse for over 30 years, working predominantly in an inner-city Toronto hospital inpatient mental health unit. I completed a Master of Science in Nursing at D’Youville College in Buffalo, New York in 2017 and am currently changing careers to become a Psychologist. I am completing my Master’s degree in Psychology at Adler Graduate Professional School in Toronto and am currently a practicum student. As a mental health nurse, I have worked with people living with numerous mental health challenges, widely varying in type and severity. I have also had the privileged and life-altering experience of working on a First Nations Reserve in a very remote and isolated area of Northwestern Ontario. This experience was the impetus for pursuing a second career.

Although I work with a variety of presenting issues, my main area of interest is Trauma, and all of the potential sequelae that can result from traumatic experiences, such as depression, anxiety, personality issues, self-esteem challenges, loss and grief, relationship difficulties, parenting challenges, struggling with wanting to live, to name just a few. My approach is client-centred, trauma-informed, LGBTQ2IA+ affirming, anti-oppressive, and culturally sensitive. I draw from a variety of therapeutic modalities including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT), Emotion-Focused Therapy (EFT), Compassion-Focused Therapy (CFT), Psychodynamic therapy, and various mindfulness-based, attachment-based, and somatic therapies. I have a Certificate in Trauma Informed Care from Adler Graduate Professional School and have attended numerous workshops throughout my nursing career addressing various aspects of trauma care. I am currently completing a Certificate in Dialectical Behavioural Therapy at the University of Toronto, School of Continuing Studies with Dr. Shelley McMain, an expert in the field.  I completed the Cognitive Behavioural Therapy Fundamentals Skills training at the University of Toronto, School of Continuing Studies in 2016.

When working with me, you can expect to be treated non-judgmentally, with compassion, respect and genuine interest in seeking to understand you as a human being and how your life experiences have influenced you. I come with a trauma-informed lens, and, as such, you can expect to have a voice and choices in the work we will do together. I look forward to meeting you and working together with you.
