Tiffany Hoffman, Master’s Counselling Psychology Student, Ph.D. (English Literature)

Therapy Areas: mood and emotional problems (anxiety, stress, grief, shame, guilt, depression, loneliness), trauma, relationship/attachment difficulties, couples therapy, sexual problems, intimacy, fertility, ADHD, psychosomatic and behavioural issues, eating/body issues, personality disorders, identity, self-esteem/enhancement, creativity

I work closely with individuals and couples to process emotional issues that may be causing stasis in one’s life or relationships. I work toward guiding my clients into a space of emotional, bodily, and psychological awareness, expression, and flow. My practice is grounded mainly in Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) and psychodynamic/psychoanalytic approaches, but I also implement a strengths-based focus and adopt techniques from gestalt-experiential models, narrative therapy, cognitive-behavioural therapy, and mindfulness, in order to facilitate client change. I apply a biopsychosocial approach with all clients, and connect interventions with the particular needs of each individual. I work through a culturally sensitive, socially just, LGBTQ2IA+ affirming therapeutic lens.

While working together, we will move through troubling emotions, cognitions, sensations, and physical experiences. I am open and curious to hear about your thoughts, memories, personal experiences, and feelings as they may have developed throughout your life history, and I look forward to engaging with you in an enlightened journey to discover what has brought you to the present moment. Working collaboratively, we will gain insight into conflicts, problems, and patterns that may be inhibiting you from achieving your goals and experiencing your most fulfilling life and relationships, or preventing the evolution of your true self. As your therapist, I will accept, reflect, make observations, and occasionally challenge you to think and feel differently about yourself and others.

I am currently a Registered Psychotherapist at the Qualifying level and in the final stages of completing my master’s degree in counselling and psychotherapy through Yorkville University. I am also a member of the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association. Additionally, I hold M.A. and Ph.D. degrees in English literature from McGill University and the University of Toronto. I draw on my many years of literary analysis and engagement in the arts and humanities to make meaning of client narratives, as I listen empathically, supportively, and without judgement, so as to foster an atmosphere of comfort, warmth, togetherness, and trust. In addition to pursuing my clinical career, I have worked as an academic professor, writer, researcher, and editor.

I look forward to meeting you soon.
