Dr. Angela Kertes, Registered Clinical and Counselling Psychologist

Supervising Psychologist

Therapy Areas: anxiety, depression, grief, trauma, relationship difficulties, adjustment-related issues, and self-enhancement

Whether you are dealing with an immediate crisis or have been struggling with longstanding emotional or relationship difficulties, therapy is a safe and supportive place to explore your concerns and make changes. I feel privileged that individuals allow me to share in their personal struggles and triumphs as we work together to make meaning of their experiences and create lasting change.

I have extensive experience treating adults with a wide variety of clinical concerns including anxiety, depression, trauma, grief, interpersonal/relationship difficulties and adjustment-related issues.

In therapy, I provide an empathic, safe, and non-judgmental space to explore your concerns. Every client is unique and has their own story, struggles, and needs. My therapeutic approach is to fit the therapy to the individual rather than the reverse. In doing so, I integrate principles from various therapy modalities. In particular, I draw from humanistic/process-experiential models, motivational enhancement methods, cognitive-behavioural strategies, emotion-focused therapy, interpersonal models, and psychodynamic theory, in order to best meet your needs and achieve your therapeutic goals.

In our initial sessions together, we will discuss your current difficulties and gather information about your life experiences and personal history. We will work collaboratively to identify treatment goals and continue this collaborative approach throughout the ongoing process of therapy.

Since 2008, I have provided psychological assessment and treatment services in a variety of settings including the York University Psychology Clinic, North York General Hospital, Victoria Hospital in London, Regional Mental Health Care London, the Student Development Centre at Western University, as part of a Randomized Clinical Trial at York and Ryerson Universities, and in private practice settings. I have a B.A. in Psychology (2005) from Western University, an M.A. in Clinical Psychology (2009) from York University, and a Ph.D. (2015) in Clinical Psychology from York University. My research has focused primarily on understanding interpersonal processes in psychotherapy and has been presented at international conferences and published in numerous peer-reviewed journals. In particular, my work has concentrated on the integration of motivational interviewing with other therapies in the treatment of chronic worry (or Generalized Anxiety Disorder).

I am registered as a psychologist with the College of Psychologists of Ontario (CPO) with competencies in Clinical and Counselling Psychology.
